What is Compassionate Dental Care?

Gentle Dentistry and painless dentistry are two terms that are often advertised by dental offices.  Sometimes dental practices will say things like “We cater to cowards”.  But what does that really mean? Is it just an advertising ploy?   Is all dentistry the same?  These are questions that many fearful patients, those who have serious dental anxieties or dental phobias, want to know.  Dentists and dental practices, just like other businesses, have varying levels of quality, service and compassion.  Gentle dentists should exercise patience and compassion. Sometimes the fear of the unknown is what feeds the anxiety cycle.  Dentists who listen to what is making a patient fearful and answer questions can be all that is needed to alleviate a patient’s anxiety.  Providing ear plugs and dark safety glasses is another way to lessen stimulation.  However, there are other ways to treat dental anxiety and the fearful patient.  Look for dentists who will consider anti-anxiety medications like nitrous oxide and oxygen therapy.  Also, look for dentists who “pre numb” with strong anesthetic gels placed on the gums before injections are administered.  Good dentists will make sure you are having a pain free experience once a procedure starts by giving you cues to stop if something is uncomfortable or you just need a rinse or a break.  Great dentists will listen to what is bothering a patient and fix it.  Dr. Lana and Dr. Addiego are those great dentists.  We treat everyone with the highest compassion and expertise to insure an optimal experience.  We listen, we care, and we have the experience and expertise to provide gentle, pain free dentistry.   We truly “cater to cowards".   Our patient’s testimonials are our proof. The photo shows a small sample of what our patients are saying.    Brandywine Dental Services Group means compassionate care.
